Square Dance Council of New Jersey
Events

Each year the Square Dance Council of New Jersey provides or helps sponsor events for square and round dancers in the state. In the past there have been state square dance conventions. In 2002 there was a square dance at Great Adventure. In 2005, 230 dancers attended a square dance at the opening of Oklahoma at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark which the council helped sponsor. More events are listed below.

NJPAC SQUARE DANCE, Wednesday April 4, 2007

As a follow-on to the last two years smash square dance successes, NJPAC is again inviting square dancers to "Square Dancing on Theater Square" on April 4, 2007. There will be a barbecue at 5:00pm in the Chase Room within the theater complex, square dancing from 6:00pm to 7:00pm with Don Coy in the Plaza and a performance of I Can't Stop Loving You - the Music of Ray Charles at 7:30. Square dancers can "buy one ticket, AND get one free". Tickets range from $20 to $58. Dancing will take place in the Prudential Lobby if it rains. To buy tickets and/or participate in the Square Dance please call NJPAC Group Sales at (973) 353-8014, Monday - Thursday 10:30 - 4:30 and ask for "Robert" or email: rpaglia@njpac.org. If you just want to dance, the dance is free.

THE GATHERING, Saturday May 12, 2007

The Gathering is an educational program aimed at training the leaders in the square dance community. The program will start at 12:00 with a series of 20 sessions covering all topics related to square dance club operation. The keynote speaker will be Tom Miller who has been calling and square dancing for 35 years. Others on the program will be John Kaltenthaler with over 50 years of calling experience and Betsy Gotta. Following the educational sessions there will be a pot luck supper and then a dance with Tom Miller calling and Roy Gotta on the rounds which will end at 10pm. The cost will be $8 per person. The location of the sessions will be the Douglas College Campus Center at 100 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901. If you have questions email NJSquareDancers@verizon.net. The organizer of the gathering is the Northern New Jersey Square Dance Association Education Committee (Rusty and Richard Ball chairpersons) and it is sponsored by the Square Dance Council of New Jersey and the Callers Council of New Jersey. Somerset Patriots baseball outing, Sunday August 27, 2006.

On August 27^th, 2006, the Council will hosted a baseball outing at the Somerset Patriots ball park in Bridgewater, NJ. The ball park is centrally located and easily accessed from route 287.
